Dearest Family and Friends,

Type 1 diabetes (T1D) abruptly entered our lives in the summer of 2005.  We saw the signs; the weight loss, the constant going to the bathroom, the edginess, the unquenchable thirst, her small hands on her throat saying, “I feel like I have the sun inside my throat”. So we knew something was wrong but we had no idea how wrong or the uphill battle that we’d have to face.

After more than 10 years living with T1D, we understand the hardships that T1D presents in not only Ceci's life, but also the lives of all the people living with T1D around the world. We witness how Ceci is constantly monitoring, balancing, correcting, and adjusting her daily life. T1D is a burdensome disease with constant overwhelming demands causing endless stressful situations that pose real physical and mental health risks.  As a formidable foe, it would be easy to let T1D win, but as you know we are the type to fight! So not surprisingly, Ceci’s diagnosis sent us on a life mission. The mission to one day cure T1D.

As a family, we are committed to supporting JDRF, the largest private funder of T1D research in the world.  Founded in 1970 by two moms with children with T1D, the strength of JDRF lies in volunteers like us―individuals that will keep advocating, keep fundraising and keep working.  Along the path to a cure, JDRF continues to deliver life-changing advancements and like us, JDRF will not be satisfied until T1D no longer impacts the lives of the many across the world.

Dealing with this taxing condition alone would be close to impossible. In addition to supporting the most promising T1D research, JDRF provides a strong support network to our family and we are honored to give back to the JDRF community. Our dedication to JDRF is simply part of who we are―which is why we are deeply humbled to be honored at this year’s One Night―35th Annual JDRF Boston Gala.

As a longtime supporter and cherished friend we hope that you will join us in celebrating this truly special occasion by joining us on Saturday, May 13th for the Gala in Boston.  If you are unable to come, we hope you will consider making a gift directly to research in honor of Ceci through Fund A Cure. All contributions make a difference.

We thank you for your consideration and support for Ceci and all those with T1D around the world.  Be the Momentum. Be the Progress. Be the Cure.

With our deepest gratitude,

Gerry, Nani, Ceci, Catalina and Emilia
